Harry's Hot Dog de Wheels elevates the humble hot dog to new heights of existence. Sure there's a frankfurt, and yes there's a soft hot dog bun, but there's also a slathering of mushy peas, a layer of chilli con carne, a couple of cooked onion rings and then a zigzagging crown of creamy cheese sauce and lip-tingling chilli.

It's certainly the most filling hot dog I've ever eaten, and the chilli con carne contains chunks of real beef, not mince, which is quite impressive. There's plenty of chilli sauce and the frankfurt itself is sweet and smoky.
And call me a victim of American movies, but all I can think of as I'm eating it, is a subconscious desire to watch a baseball game.
I don't even like baseball.

hee hee Harrys is a gem for good cheap food =D theres always such a biiigg line at the original one :S esp late at night. My favourite combo is hot dog with potato and peas and cheese and bbq sauce ^^! mmm.. soo hungryy
ReplyDeleteThe Haymarket Harry's is right next to my office. You could also try the Seafood Pie with big chunks of beautiful pink salmon and a scallop. Also their Curry Pie with a big squirt of HP brown sauce is quite a treat when you're in the mood.
ReplyDeleteThis said, I usually walk by and through to Mitchitaro Japanese in the space next to the Captitol Theatre. The Hotade Nigiri with a small hot sake is almost too good to be true when you need a small snack!
Your photos, as ever, make me sooo hungry. Trouble is in that part of town their are so many other snacks that are far too irresistable! Perhaps I should get out more.
ReplyDeleteCome to the States and we'll watch a baseball game together! Nothing screams baseball like an ice cold beer in one hand, a hot dog in the other! And someone throwing peanut shells on the floor. Just kidding, I don't do that. I also don't like beer, but at games now I've succumbed to the beer drinking. When it's hot, it's awesome :) (the weather, not the beer)
