Blues Point Cafe, McMahons Point

Chocolate hazelnut pizza

The humble pizza has endured various mutations and toppings. Dessert pizza is perhaps the most sacrilegious.

But after an early dinner and a few beers at the pub, a 10pm attack of the munchies led our group to the Blues Point Cafe. Some had the soup (minestrone), others had the chocolate mud cake and the tiramisu, but for our end of the table, the chocolate hazelnut dessert pizza sounded too good to resist.

Dessert pizza rolled with chocolate hazelnut
served with chocolate ice cream and whipped cream $15.00

We watched as everyone else was gradually served, and finally, after a twenty-minute wait , we were presented with a groaning platter of calorific sacrifice, drizzled with crazy swirls of chocolate sauce and punctuated with aerated cream.

Five scrolls of toasted pizza dough enclosed thick gooey tunnels of Nutella-like chocolate hazelnut paste. The filling was cooked to a warm stickiness, the overall sweetness soothed by dabs of cream and mouthfuls of the cool dark chocolate ice cream.

We shared two pizzas between four people and munched our way to calorific satiation.
