House of Flying Daggers

We went to a preview screening of House the Flying Daggers tonight.

Directed by Yimou Zhang (Hero and Raise the Red Lantern), there were definitely elements of Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon albeit with significantly more girl power. There were also a lot more nature scenes (as opposed to usual palacial opulence) and the cinematography and sound were very impressive.

Probably not as good as Crouching Tiger in my opinion but still most enjoyable and Legolas is definitely given a run for his money in the archery precision stakes.

Ziyi Zhang is as beautiful as ever and the bamboo forest scene one-ups the running-through-the-trees from Crouching Tiger. Perfectly timed for Chinese New Year too.

    Love the movie.. and just as good as Crouching Tiger.. AG.. ;)

    I am still waiting for my friend to pass me the DVD! Love the costumes particularly. This movie is surely a killer for the ladies. I like Takeshi ^-^
