Everybody loves a parade and after my frenzied coverage of the Chinese New Year festivities, I thought it only fair I cover Sydney's Celtic roots as well.
However reflecting Australia's relentless multiculturalism, it was heartwarming to see Irish-Chinese families on the sideline and a couple of Chinese kids within the parade itself. Not to mention the Chinese dragon which was somehow included in the parade too!
A couple of Irish larrikins take off down the middle of George Street before the parade begins...
...quickly pursued by police officers on motorbikes.
And it was only later when I got home that I realised that the first larrikin pic provided a little too much information by one of the exuberant parade-crashers. I've leave you to decide when you wish to click on the pic to enlarge...
St Patrick of course made an appearance in his customised Pope-mobile.
Not only were we entertained, but we got fed as well. These were genuine Irish crisps--and rather good too!
No, I'm not quite sure why this dragon was part of the parade, but it made for some nice pictures!
The St Patrick's Day Parade is held annually on the nearest Sunday to March 17.
Anthony Bourdain was in town?!
ReplyDeleteIrish-Chinese? Geee... have never heard of this kind of combination, sound interesting.
ReplyDeleteYuriko told me among all the places she went in Aus, she likes Sydney the most. So much things to see.... Hmm, I should really try to get myself there one day.
