Una's, Darlinghurst

Ok, so it'd only been 15 days since we last visited Una's, but the allure of an $18 schnitzel frenzy proved too great to resist...

We arrived at 7pm tonight and ended up waiting about 20 minutes in the bar upstairs. We're sure they make the room extra stuffy just to make sure the beers get knocked back more quickly!

Downstairs, Una's was packed as usual. We scanned the menu blackboards quickly before placing our orders.

Osso bucco with rosti and vegetables (special of the day) $17.90

Veal Jaeger schnitzel with mushroom sauce, rosti and cabbage salad $17.40

Cabbage salad (served with the Jaeger schnitzel)

Cabbage rolls with minced meat $16.40

Inside the giant cabbage roll

The osso bucco was tender and tasty with two satisfying pockets of decadent marrow.

The schnitzel was again a winning combination of tender veal and crisp coating.

I had the cabbage rolls based on recommendation by a fellow foodie; plus I'd been browsing Reid's site recently and couldn't get the image of his cabbage rolls out of my head.

The cabbage rolls were enormous. Each mince pattie must've weighed 200g each! The tomato sauce was light but zingy and the generous dollop of sour cream added richness to the cabbage.

The rosti was much browner and crisper (ie. more delicious) this time and we were impressed that the accompanying broccoli was actually al dente and vivid with colour.

Once again, about halfway through our meals our stomachs started hurting and if I had been wearing a belt, I would have loosened it, or even better, removed it entirely!

An over-the-top nosh-up for even the hungriest little pig.

Now... I've heard they do a great breakfast too...

  2. Hi AG,

Thanks for being a supporter! =)

For some reason, I didn't think you saw the post on the cabbage rolls. In fact, back then, I don't think I had very many readers.

The food here looks good. For some reason, we don't have very many places that serve this type of food here in Hawaii. I do know of one place that serves Austrian/German food, that I plan to go visit when I have the time.

    Thank you for sharing!

  4. You must have read my mind. Drove past New South Head road a couple of times this weekend and saw Una's and was going to ask you if you knew if it was the same owners as Darlinghurst and your latest review confirmed it. And how excited am I that they are going to open in Ultimo!

  5. Osso bucco was oh so good! The marrow was thick and spreadable. Be still my clogged artery.

Strictly in the name of research, we must investigate their breakfast menu. How about before next month's Good Living market?
