We didn't get down to the Cabramatta Moon Festival until quite late in the day, when John Street was decidely strewn with assorted litter and squashed remnants of fluoro green and pink silly string.

There were still plenty of people about, but at this hour there was room to move. There were still mountains of food available too.

Cha gio spring rolls

Cashew nut wafers

Miniature bottles of Squid bran fish sauce
Squid brand! Our favourite! And in terribly cute miniature bottles!

Thumbs up for Yummy House sauces

Sticky rice bundles

Outdoor dining

Laksa

Basil seed drink
One of my favourites.

Obligatory shot of a gozleme stall

Vegetable carvings
The stall was selling carving tools, graters and mandolines.

Vegetable carving in action
They made it look so easy.

Carved watermelon

Phuoc Hau Pagoda stall

Lion dance

This year's Cabramatta Moon Festival was held on Sunday October 1, 2006.

Got to Cabramatta at around 11am. Despite the publicity blurb saying that it started at noon, it had *definitely* started by the time my friend & I got there! It was our first time in Cabramatta and I think that it was a pretty good opportunity to see it at its buzziest! I found the whole Dignitaries Making Speeches thing hilarious (the poor so-called VIPs were stuck in the seating area like they were trapped in some holding pen). The food I had was mixed. We had lunch at Pho 54. Have to say that the English menu that we got was a bit of a disappointment since there were clearly a lot of other items but it was just too hectic to ask them to go through the entire Vietnamese menu! We'd gone in search of Cafe Cay Du, which was owned by the siblings who started Red Lantern. Alas Cay Du seems to have disappeared...if anyone knows whether it has in fact closed down or merely moved, I'd love to know.

ReplyDeleteAnother weekend festival wow Helen, you go!
ooohh cabra festival looks good. I was at the manly jazz festival and that was pretty soothing with all the cool jazz. The carved watermelon and veges are cool and so is the mashimaro hee hee
ReplyDeleteI'm the same with the carved veges. They are totally amazing. And your frequent festival behaviour is definitely an ABILITY not a disability!
ReplyDeleteHow did I miss the spring rolls?
