Pyrmont Growers Market, Pyrmont

It was a glorious summer's day for the first Pyrmont Growers Market of 2005. Wicker baskets, pampered pooches and prams were all out in force to stock up on organic, gourmet and exotic produce.

One of the three rows of stallholders at the markets. The building in the background is Sydney's Star City casino .

We breakfasted on samples of olives, trout pate, macadamias, gelato, tofu in goma sauce, goat sausages and chutneys ad finitum. Who needs to buy anything?

We did though. We could have bought a lot more too.

Finger lime butter from the Bushtucker Shop $5.50 small jar, $8.00 large jar
A wonderfully slightly tart spread, this is heaven spread on toast. Small finger lime crystals are interspersed throughout the creamy butter. Yes, one large jar please, thankyou.

Bunya nuts.

Whisk and Pin - and yes, they have the infamous Rocky Road Muesli for sale here.

La Tartine, our preferred supplier of organic woodfired sourdough. Their flours are stone ground (they don't use the ordinary steel cylinders), everything bar the water is certified organic, and they only use natural leaven.

I couldn't resist the pumpkin sourdough and the fruit loaf. Both had satisfyingly chewy crusts but softly dense interiors.

Pumpkin sourdough $3.50 and fruit loaf sourdough $5.50 from La Tartine.

Lemon polenta cakes and chocolate praline cakes from Manna from Heaven.

You can't beat a Saturday morning gourmet goodies shop in the Sydney sunshine alongside the water. There are about 70 stallholders including Pastabilities, Pukara Estate, Formagi Ocello and Toby's Estate. And it's all good for you. Especially your sighing stomach.
