Can a beer be crafted and cellared as carefully as a bottle of wine?
Three mates sitting in a Sydney pub one day thought so, and Endeavour True Vintage Beer was born.
These unique ales are created to a different recipe each year, factoring in the variation in barley and hops obtained from the annual harvest. Chief brewer, Andy Stewart, who has 13 years' experience in viticulture, approaches each brew with the same principles as a winemaker.
As a result, the 2010 Endeavour Reserve Pale Ale and the 2010 Endeavour Reserve Amber Ale can be cellared for 2-3 years, and should result in the development of secondary characteristics.
THE PRIZE:
Three lucky readers will win a four-pack of Endeavour True Vintage Beer, containing two bottles each of 2010 Reserve Pale Ale and 2010 Reserve Amber Ale.Prize value: AU$18

If reserving makes the taste better, I am one who would definitely reserve it before drinking it immediately. But then again, who could resist not drinking it immediately? Hmm, maybe a bottle to taste and reserve the rest? :D
ReplyDeleteI'd drink it straight away. Wouldn't even put it in the fridge to chill it. I could do with a beer right now actually
ReplyDeleteI think I'll drink it straight away!
ReplyDeleteHaving spent the last 6 weeks in detox - no coffee, no alcohol, no fun - and today being the very last day that i'll be punishing myself there would be no cellaring of this fine brew. and it would be all mine! Tonight!
ReplyDeleteI would definitely not shelve them unless it was *strongly* recommended by the brewer, the key word here being strongly.
ReplyDeleteThe first thing I would do is stock up on a bunch more artisan beers, the second thing I would do is wait for the first hot evening of the summer and throw a beer tasting party! Beers around the world, beer drinkers around the world and finger foods, tapas and snacks galore!
Pleeease pretty please let me throw my beer party :-)
With a beer this good you need to drink it at its peak. Because every year is different you can't pick when that will be so you need to check it at least once per week for many, many weeks.
ReplyDeleteDrink now, ask questions later :)
ReplyDeleteLife's too short. I'd drink them pronto!
ReplyDeleteBoth. Drink 2, Cellar 2.
ReplyDeleteCellar all
ReplyDeleteIn the cellar. I would save it until I find someone worthy of drinking my prize.
ReplyDeleteI think I would let my husband drink half and cellar half for when I can drink them (currently pregnant, so no delicious beer for me)!
ReplyDeleteCellar it because if I leave it out dad would drink it right away with my uncle and get drunk off their faces on them leaving me nothing but empty bottles to look at....
ReplyDeleteI can hardly wait
ReplyDeleteBut aged beer is nice to drink
One now, one later
I would consume one now, one after one year, one after two years and one more in three years time. That way the four pack is perfectly sized to allow me to taste the development of this beer over it's recommended 2-3 year life!
ReplyDeleteI'd endeavour to reserve it for a later date but having said that I might not be able to beer the wait - I might turn pale with anticipation.
ReplyDeleteI would cellar it but whether or not it would actually stay there is questionable...
ReplyDeleteI'd want to enjoy some straight away, but also see how the flavours develop. So one each of the Pale and Amber Ale straight away and the others in a couple of years (if I can be that self controlled)
ReplyDeleteWould celler it until xmas and then give it to dad:)
ReplyDeleteI would have to drink it straight away, because the yeast would be unsettled in transit! Thus, the aroma and flavour should be enjoyed ASAP!
ReplyDeleteTry one - just because I couldn't resist - and cellar the others. One each year. Mmmmm :)
ReplyDeleteI'd waste no time in consuming this delicious ale! There's plenty more where that came from and I'm willing to pay for the privilege.
ReplyDeletelooks like a fine brew ,so it would be chilled then consumed in a rather hasty fashion. But much enjoyed i can assure you.
ReplyDeleteCellar it until a celebration thats worth opening it for !!
ReplyDeletei would definitely enjoy the flavours now, why wait?
ReplyDeleteas soon as I get it in my hot little hands
ReplyDeleteI'd have to cellar them? But it's summer!
ReplyDeleteHere's my beer plan: Couldn't resist to drink one now, save one for Christmas Day & the other two for New Years Eve!
ReplyDeleteI'm getting thirsty thinking about it so NO I wouldn't be waiting for it to mature further!
ReplyDeleteI would drink one bottle with my partner (a sommelier) , and cellar the rest for 1,2 and 3 years and compare the taste and most probably by more and use the best method
ReplyDeleteIn the cellar, along with the children I have locked up there.
ReplyDeleteI'd drink it now - I love having an 'Ale' of a time!
ReplyDeletewaiting is for hotline callers and prison inmates - i'd drink them now
ReplyDeleteNo use wasting time aging beer, best drunk straight away and cold.
ReplyDeleteThere's always a reason to celebrate an anniversary! I would share this four pack with my partner. We would drink two straight away and save the other two for later!
ReplyDeleteCorrection to my previous answer... With only four of them, the second two wouldn't last the two years. I'd enjoy them now, then if I enjoyed them enough, head out and buy a case of them, then at least some might make the recommended cellaring time.
ReplyDeleteI would Endeavour to cellar this brew until Christmas. However, with my 20th Wedding Anniversary beforehand, saving this 4-pack for the Santa Sack will become a Christmas miracle.
ReplyDeleteI'd like to say I'd cellar them but I reckon I'd drink them straight away. Good stuff should be enjoyed in the here and now!
ReplyDeleteI'd cellar it until the 5th December 2011 as that's going to be our 30 the wedding anniversary and who needs champagne to celebrate it, not I as I'd have this four-pack of Endeavour True Vintage Beer; beats champagne hands down I reckon.
ReplyDeleteBeers been brewed already that is how it is made so there is no cause to wait. So now onto the important stuff like to enjoy it with some willing mates.
ReplyDeleteA beer this good
ReplyDeleteIs definitely worth waiting for
But a more likely scenario
Is that the boys will drink all 4!
immediately for me,a tasty quality and luxury beer, that would really make this christmas full of cheer
ReplyDeleteI won't even bother refridgerating it. Straight down the hatch for me.
ReplyDeleteWoohoo! Free Beer... aha, I'm in :)
ReplyDeleteReverse Pale Ale! that sounds interesting, as a born and bred Tazzy boy that'd have to mix well with a glass of cider :P We used to call that a 'snakebite' and it did :D
Cellar it! Dang! no way! I'ts down my gurgler straight away 'cause life's to short not to enjoy a beer or two each day.
ReplyDeleteI'd like to cellar it but the urge would be too strong to taste it.
ReplyDeleteLuckily its not long until our 10th wedding anniversary so it would be perfect for the occassion.
I'd whack them in the cellar for my fella for Chrissy - I'll just have to keep them well hidden!
ReplyDeleteImmediately!!! Perfect for a celebration, after work or watching the game!
ReplyDeleteNo time to waste! These little fellas have been brewed for our pure pleasure. Swill - Hold - Swallow - Smile...then sleep alone :)
ReplyDeleteNo time to waste, gimme some pale ale stat..revive my heart Im feeling a bit pale!
ReplyDeleteI have a mate who attempted to save some fancy beer for a special occasion, it went bad before he opened it. So bearing that in mind I'd open it immediately.
ReplyDeleteI like to buy beer and drink it...cellaring it seems such a waste. Why wait for a special occasion, beer this good would make any day a special occasion!
ReplyDeleteSeeing as he invited me to this page, I might have to hide it away until Julian Cartledge popped over for a beer.
ReplyDeleteFork-en heck! Now theres a question; drink the beer/ save the beer.... one of lifes moral dilemmas. Personally it will last as long as it takes to chill in our freezer then it's glug glug 'ahhhh'. Cheers :)
ReplyDeleteI'd give it to my fella, he'd appreciate this 'best cellar'!
ReplyDeleteOnce its nice and chilled, there would be no stopping me knocking the top off!
ReplyDeleteAs it would be the first beer I have EVER won, it would be cellared and guzzled down with ceremony on the anniversay of it's momentous winning!
ReplyDeleteWould love to say cellar it, but would have to find a really good hidey hole away from my other half!
ReplyDeleteCellar them and bring them out on Christmas 2012, to drink with my Dad while he works the BBQ for the masses.
ReplyDeletecellar 2 & drink 2 now there is a very happy medium!
ReplyDeleteI WOULD HAVE TO JUST TRY ONE I COULDNT WAIT!!!
ReplyDeleteI ENDEAVOUR to play,
ReplyDeleteIn my busy day,
To the fridge I go,
Relaxing amber liquid flows,
TRUE VINTAGE beer around,
...Drinking all four - serenity's found!
Immediately!! I'd raise up my bottle and cheer
ReplyDeleteFor its a wonderful drink that is beer.
I'd ignore wine's false voice —
Beer's the real people's choice
And it's "Endeavour" friends and I revere!
I'm the type of person to save it for a special occasion.
ReplyDelete'Bottle conditioned for complexity and longevity' is a hint for me to appreciate the value of time as I would with a fine wine.
ReplyDeleteThese impressive beers would be down the hatch quicker than you could say "Tom Cruise is a loony". Not that you'd say that, because that's clearly something I'd say.
ReplyDeleteAussies and Beer? No need for the Cellar.
ReplyDeletea cellar is for the rich and famous where as for me i drink for the heat and to cool me off so i drink now
