Good Living Growers' Market, Pyrmont
Steakalicious
As if on cue, Mother Nature turned on a dazzling day of sunshine for shoppers at the Good Living Growers' Markets on Saturday. Despite the luxury of the weekly Farmers' Market at Eveleigh, Sydneysiders still flock to the markets at Pyrmont, held on the first Saturday of every month.
It's hard to believe it's been over six months since I last visited. Oh the lure of the Saturday morning sleep-in.
On a gorgeously sunny day though, it's hard not to smile at the stalls bearing the latest harvests of beetroot, the carefully stacked loaves of sourdough bread, the piquant smell of blue vein cheeses and the happy tumble of exotic mushrooms.
It may be an early start, but it's worth it.

The man in the penultimate photo is definately taking advantage of the sun~ haha :)
ReplyDelete"Mother-in-laws citris"? What's that, citris fruits that are nasty and you don't want hanging around in your home any longer than necessary?
ReplyDeleteSomeone actually went to the trouble of setting up a wood fire oven. Talk about duty of care to your food and customers. I so want to try out the pizza just for that reason :)
Too bad I work on Saturdays. Looks like a fantastic market! (those cabbages are gorgeous)
ReplyDeleteYou have some fascinating photos - the memory tea, the not quite organic limes, and the headless man!
ReplyDeletei still haven't managed to visit this market but hope to one day if i can manage to get myself up in the early morning on a saturday. looks great.
ReplyDeleteI should've dragged my sorry arse out of bed and headed down..it was such a beautiful day and those figs look amazing...
ReplyDeleteAs for Formaggi Ocello, lucky for me they opened their retail store on Bourke St near my house..I now have a constant supply of organic reggiano parmesan!
the signs at the leppington farm stall are hilarious! the food & produce look great... maybe i should try and get up early for the markets next month!
ReplyDeleteAhhh I haven't gone in aggess too :( need to stock up on some produce goodness! and LOL at random sleeping in the garden
ReplyDeleteI should really make my way there one day. And did you ask him about his Not Quite Organic Limes? :P
ReplyDeletesome great pics .... I loved the pretty cabbages, the NQO Citrus, the memory tea (would there be a market for tea to make you forget certain things!)...and I wonder if that man ate too many bacon and egg rolls for breakfast ; )
ReplyDeleteThese are the best markets. The figs are so plumptious.
ReplyDeleteI didn't make it this month, but my kind friend bought some goats curd for me. Very nice with roast pumpkin.
ReplyDeleteThose Ladysmith Lamb patties are absolutely sensational! I had a free taste at the North Sydney produce market and then had to convince them to sell me two right there and then. They are rich and fatty and incredibly good.
ReplyDeleteI'd forgotten about them completely.
I need to get myself to these markets, I can imagine having one of those lamb patties on a bun while walking oogling at all the great stuff for sale.
ReplyDeleteHi Thomas - lol. I did do a double-take when I first saw him. It looked like a headless body and it didn't seem like a very comfortable position but he was obviously enjoying the sun.
ReplyDeleteHi Simon - Apparently it was the first time the wood-fired oven appeared at the markets - very impressive feat of relocation. And not sure about the mother-in-law citrus either, although it sounded intriguing!
Hi Megan - It's a great market, although there are a few around Sydney on Sundays too. Check my side panel on the right hand side for other markets options.
Hi Belle - lol. Thanks. Despite the number of posts I've published on the markets, there's always something new to discover each time I visit :)
Hi Simon Food Favourites - It's a struggle but it's worth the effort, especially when it's a glorious day of sunshine and the rays sparkle off the water :)
Hi Reemski - It was a beautiful day indeed, and oh you are lucky re: Formaggi Ocello!
Hi Betty - I do like my sleep-in but there is something quite rewarding about having a morning wander around the markets. It gets harder in winter though but hope you do make it sometime!
Hi FFichiban - I could hardly believe it was my first visit for 2009, and yeah the sleeping man was quite a funny sight.
Hi Lorraine - I didn't ask about the limes but I did think of your site as soon as I saw the sign! Definitely recommend visiting these markets, although Northside is good too with a cosier feel.
Hi divemummy - Lots of pretty things to see at the markets, and not sure about the sleeping man but wasn't game to wake him up to ask!
Hi Veruca Salt - Pyrmont is great and the figs looked divine. I was sorely tempted!
Hi Arwen - Yum, goats cheese and pumpkin are a favourite combo of mine, and you're lucky to have such a thoughtful friend too :)
Hi Pete - lol. The Ladysmith Lamb stall has a legion of fans. Can't believe you snapped up two patties straight off their hotplate!
Hi Howard - Definitely recommend these markets. They have a great outdoors feel to them, and better yet, it's a quick walk back to the city. I had quite a good browse in Victoria's Basement on my way home :)
Plumptious - Veruca?
ReplyDeleteYou should be a wordsmith.
Hi divemummy - She does have a way with words :)
