Haldon Street Festival, Lakemba
It's true. I love a festival.
So there was little doubt I'd be making my west to Lakemba for the annual Haldon Street Festival late last month.
About half of Lakemba's residents were born overseas resulting in a main street which is dominated by "ethnic" eateries, intriguing grocery shops and yes, good cheap food!
The day's festivities started with a parade showcasing the diversity of nationalities and cultures.
I've linked these pics to the ones in Flickr, so click to view an enlarged version.
Lion dancers
I love lion dancers! Actually I love the accompanying drums which get the heart racing and the hands clapping with glee. And the dramatic playfulness of the lion dancers always brings out the little kid in me!
Colombian dancers added colour and plenty of frills as well.
Belly dancer
Turkish drummers
Hulanesian dancers
These kids were gorgeous. And the guys really knew how to shake their booty.
Chinese drumming dancers
Hai-YAH!
This girl was gorgeous. Look at that intensity!

This year's Haldon Street Festival was held on Saturday 27 August 2005. This annual event is in its sixth year, and celebrates respect, unity and peace.

Hi AG! I also love lion dancers! I love the drums too, but most of all I love the fluffy leg pants!
We arranged a surprise lion dance at our wedding. It was really cool!

:( Unfortunately not - we paid a small fortune for the troupe to come out! But it was worth it! :)
