6 Random Things Meme

The dog ate my homework.

Billy tagged me for the 6 random things meme, and it's taken me over three weeks to finally respond. It's reasonably similar to the 10 Random Things Meme I first answered in January 2006, but I won't let Billy down. And yeah, this blog and I do feel old.

So here are 6 more random things about me. They're all food-related. Surely you're not surprised!

  1. My ideal breakfast would be fluffy hotcakes with lashings of maple syrup, thick slices of banana and two rashers of bacon fried til crisp. Oh yes, I hear your disbelief, but you too, will see the light once you try it (trust me!).

  2. Which colour Allens' Snakes do I choose? I go straight for the yellow ones. I've moved on from red. How can you beat that pineappley goodness?

  3. My favourite snack right now is blue cheese on ginger biscuits. It works with mild Castello, creamy gorgonzola, crumbly Stilton or tangy roquefort. Best biscuits are Anna's Swedish Thins.

  4. When I'm sick, I crave homemade congee. There's something so very comforting and nourishing about a simple bowl of rice porridge with a slosh of soy and a simple garnish of chopped shallots (green onions) and sprigs of coriander. And when you start craving the fried bread sticks, you know you're back to your old self again!

  5. The last chocolate bar I bought was a Picnic. I love that combo of wafer, nuts and caramel.

  6. I have a confession. I still have a strange obsession with eating my foods one layer at a time. This includes wafers, liquorice allsorts, jersey caramels and those layered Vietnamese rice flour desserts in stripes of pink, white and green. I can't help it. It feels wrong not to!

This meme has already gone around much of the Sydney food blogosphere already, so I'm tagging 5 Sydney bloggers whom I don't think have been tagged so far. I tag:
  1. Karen from Beansprout's Cafe
  2. Karen from Citrus and Candy
  3. TFP from The Food Pornographer
  4. Jen from Jenius
  5. Y from lemonpi
  6. Annie from Yes, I want to see the dessert menu!
If you've been tagged and you’re a newbie, here are the rules:

- Link to the person who tagged you
- Post the rules on the blog
- Write six random things about yourself
- Tag six people at the end of your post
- Let them know they’ve been tagged by commenting on their blog
- Let the tagger know when your entry is posted.

And I've love to hear from others, especially from those who read this blog but don't have the time to maintain their own. Either tell me 6 random things about yourself, or if you're uninspired, use the 6 themes I've highlighted above. Leave your answers in the comment box. You don't need to log in to make a comment. Go on.... you know you want to....

Ideal Breakfast - scrambled eggs, sourdough toast, bacon very very crispy, sauteed mushrooms, long black and the SMH.

Snake Colour - haven't moved on from the red.

Favourite snack right now - Those chips that are cooked in olive oil. YUM!

When I'm sick - my mum's chicken noodle soup. No meat, just home made chicken stock, garlic and curly spaghetti.

Last chocolate bar - kid size Milky Way. I'm watching my weight.

I have a confession - I use way more butter when I cook than what I tell my wife.

That was fun - like 5 minutes on a shrink's couch.

Oooh have you tried Crabtree and Evelyn's ginger stem biscuits? They are brilliant. But then again anything with ginger stem is :P

Ideal Breakfast - crepes with lemon juice and sugar.. not dad's tomatoes, bacon and eggs - sorry old man! hehe (he does do a mean dippy egg though that goes down well)

Allen's snake colour - i'm with you, the yellow ones!

Favourite snack right now - carrot sticks with spring onion dip... dont know what it is! Used to be a brie and quince paste girl but this dip has taken me over.

When I'm sick I cant get enough of - warm lemonade... something mum got me onto ages ago

Last chocolate bar - giant caramello koala - suck the caramel out through his ears...mmmm

I have a confession - I have to eat Tina wafers 5 at a time... I cannot leave a row of them with one or 2 biscuits in them, makes me cranky, and i get especially excited when its a packet with 2 stawberry, 2 vanilla and 1 chocolate wafers per layer... heaven.

I love eating things one layer at a time too! This extends to KitKat Chunkys as well (probably quite unappetising to look at, so it's just as well I usually don't eat them in public :P ), which is the Last Chocolate Bar I would've bought. Thanks for the tag - I was also tagged by Tummyrumble, but I haven't had a chance to respond yet.

Oooh, blue cheese on Anna's Swedish Ginger Thins! A friend introduced me to this surprisingly delicious combo a couple of years back. He has since moved to Australia and as he is a real foodie, I can't help but think this combo has somehow spread from him to you through a chain of friends!

Hi Bolo - Thanks for answering. I love the confession about the butter you hide from your wife :) If it tastes good, there's usually butter or cream involved! Thanks for playing and mmm... that sounds like a great breakfast too!

Hi Lorraine - I haven't tried those biscuits but they sound great. I really must bake more things with stem ginger. I had the pineapple and ginger macaron from Adriano Zumbo and almost died from bliss. It was so so good!

Hi Alex - lol. I love your confession about the Tina Wafers. I don't often eat them so I didn't realise you get different flavour ratios!

And I'm laughing at the visual image of sucking the caramel through the koala's ears! Oh, and I'll know to keep my snakes away from you (unless I've already eaten all the yellow ones. haha!)

    Thanks for playing!

Hi Y - Oh yes, I forgot to mention Kit Kats as well. I even used to do it with Mars Bars when I was in high school. I would try and save the top part with the caramel last :)

Hi Anon - I actually learnt this combo from a Swedish friend - I think it's a common combo over there - like American peanut butter and jelly, or Australian cheese and Vegemite, I guess. It tastes so good I'm kicking myself I didn't discover this amazing flavour combo sooner!

Yes, those Anna thins are good. Thanks for getting me on to them. But they must be consumed separately!

The Tina wafer flavour random thing is so strange. I only realised when I went thru two packets on the one day and thought hang on why are their so many pink ones now?

Hi Veruca Salt - Now I have a craving for Tina wafers, and I'll be obsessed with checking their flavour ratios from now on in!

Breakfast: Weekend SMH, a short black, fluffy pancakes with real maple syrup, fresh rasberries and Streets Blue Ribbon ice-cream on the side

    Snake colour: still red

Favourite snack right now: potato crisps

When I'm sick: home-made congee or Mum's ginger and Chinese wine pork knuckle broth - mmm....must get recipe on paper

    Last chocolate bar: Bounty

I have a confession: you don't want to know how many potato crisps I've eaten in the last week.

Hi Divemummy - Ha, I should've known you'd answer this one! Fluffly pancakes are always a winner at breakfast, and ha, I should've suspected a potato crisp obsession with your last grocery shop!
