The Sanctuary, Sydney

Oven-roasted kingfish $17.00
with caramelised eggplant, garlic and tomato and chive vinaigrette

It's the little things.

The Sanctuary Hotel has become a little like Old Faithful. Fast, affordable, reliable. And I've yet to endure an overcooked steak. In fact we find the steaks here are still so very good. No horrid bits of gristle, and the steaks are always seared to perfection.

I had the oven-roasted kingfish the other day, a fair portion of succulent fish on an eggplant caponata. The chives were a fancy touch.

French onion soup $7.00
Soup of the Day

The French onion soup is a less oily take on a traditional favourite, although the toasted bread could have had a bit more cheese.

Linguini with grilled prawns, chilli, rocket and lemon $15

Whilst the linguini was good, it was disappointing to see pre-grated parmesan atop this dish, not the parmesan shavings that used to adorn it.

250g certified Angus rump with chips $11.00

And the steak never fails to please.

There are two pool tables by the bar now, but we didn't mind. I certainly didn't mind last time when I sank the winning shot! I don't know who was more shocked - the other team or I!
