Happy New Year

Sydney nye midnight fireworks

Noone puts on a New Year's Eve spectacular quite like Sydney.

Having spent NYE beneath Big Ben in London, and penned in at Times Square New York, I can say that neither comes remotely close to the awe-inspiring atmosphere and camaraderie of a NYE spent around Sydney Harbour with a million of your closest friends.

A pyrotechnic orgy worth AU$3million dollars exploded last night, firing off buildings in the city CBD and cascading across the Sydney Harbour Bridge as the crowd gave a collective "aaaaahhhhhhh".

The theme this year was A Diamond Night in Emerald City, celebrating the 75th anniversary of the Sydney Harbour Bridge. The Bridge is always the focal point of the midnight fireworks and I was lucky enough to witness it all from the exclusive vantage point at Dawes Point (thanks AN!).

Hi Reid - Yes you've been rather quiet of late. Good to see you back and blogging, and yes you must come to Sydney. So much fooding to be done! We must meet up!

Hi Caz - Thanks and happy new year to you too!

Hi MissK - I love Sydney at NYE. Noone puts on a party like we do!

Hi chocolatesuze - We were right beneath the bridge. A fantastic view.

We had dinner in Chinatown beforehand. The joys of VIP access to a restricted area :) And yes, I took photos of my dinner too.

Happy New Year to you and Noods.

Hi Anon - Awww thanks. That hour spent googling "fireworks photography" paid off indeed :)

Hi Mama Bok - Happy New Year to you too! Hope you have a wonderful 2007!

Hi Pickles - Sydney is breathtaking by night, and even more glamorous with $3m of fireworks :) A delicious 2007 to you too!

Hi Anon - Thank you. I used a Nikon D70s (with tripod of course).

Great photos! I missed seeing all that stuff projected onto the pylons, because I was a fair bit away. And Happy 2007!

Hi Reb - I was not envying the crowds around Circular Quay at all! I was very fortunate to receive a VIP pass into a restricted access area. Our spot was sensational. I was very lucky (and grateful) indeed!

Hi Y - We were very lucky to be so close to the pylons. I had no idea the popn of Sydney had risen so much!

It's an amazing atmosphere to be spending NYE with a million other Sydneysiders and visitors!

Hi Nicole - Thank you. Happy New Year to you too!

Hi Veruca Salt - Happy New Year to my fooding partner-in-crime!

And Meerkat Manor? Ha ha... I wouldn't be too envious. Dicko got more attention than any of the BB "celebrities".

Hi Swee - Thank you. Happy New Year to you too. Look forward to seeing all your delicious cooking capers.
