Perama, Petersham

Perama has now closed. David Tsirekas has now opened a new restaurant Xanthi at Westfield Sydney. Read the GYF post.

Reviewed favourably by the Sydney Morning Herald, we were keen to try Perama--tucked away in Petersham's Little Portugal.

Perama's mission is to offer Greek food derived from both classical and contemporary Greek origins. The lamb was the hit of the night, flaking beautifully with the touch of a fork and melting in the mouth with carnivorous joy. The stuffed calamari tubes were also applauded and the olive oil ice cream was smooth, satiny and very more-ish. The concept sounds completely bizarre but trust me, it works.

The upstairs eating area can be a little loud but what's a Greek banquet without a lot of noise and conversation?

Whole calamari tubes stuffed with wild rice and pine nuts

BBQ chilli quail

Bougatsa filo pastry with custard

Berry nice pudding

Greek tiramasaki
