Not just for oldies

balls

Everything old is new again.

So the non-stop arrival of hip young things in summer dresses, jeans and oversized sunglasses is not taking place at a city bar or nightclub, but the Paddington Bowling Club in Sydney's inner east.

lawn bowls

Facing dwindling numbers and the threat of closure, many lawn bowl clubs across Australia have relaxed their regulations, swinging open their doors to young people who delight in barefoot bowls with friends on the weekend, beer in hand of course.

I'd always wanted to try lawn bowls and although I wasn't the greatest player, I definitely had a lot of fun. It's a lot harder than it looks but the social and team-playing aspect of it is brilliant.

We had lunch halfway, and although it was simple, you can't beat snags, wings, chips and salad for tasty Sunday afternoon fare.
