St Patrick's Day Parade
With the Sydney Harbour Bridge celebrations scheduled for next week, the annual St Patrick's Day parade was held last weekend on Sunday March 11.
There were no incongruous Chinese dragon dancers like there had been 2005, but there were plenty of bagpipes, kilts and all things in green.
We adjourned briefly to Hyde Park where I introduced the visiting Englishman to the beloved Australian pluto pup (known to Americans as corn dogs).
(The guy in line before us)
A pluto pup brings back memories of the Easter Show, of flairy floss, of sticky fingers and homemade lemonade. Bite through the hot crispy cornmeal batter and sink your teeth into the sweet fatty mush of a hot dog frankfurt.
Australians always dip the top into tomato sauce of course, and given the occasion, a pint of Guinness would seem mandatory too.
This year's St Patrick's Day parade was held on Sunday March 11, 2007.

I was always a fan of the cheese dog (cheese covered in batter) which i've only ever seen at the Easter Show. Good thing too! I'm not sure a cheese dog is part of a healthy diet.

Thanks for sharing a bit of St. Patrick's Day with us. I loved hearing the different names for corndogs and what we call cotton candy. This is one of the great things about blogging- you can go anywhere, no matter where you are!

Those corn dogs look yummy. I wonder if we're going to have some of that in NYC this year. That would be so cool.

Mmm... would you believe I've never had a corn dog? And.. fairy floss sounds so much better than cotton candy... yum yum. :)
