Saigon Pho, Haymarket

Midway through our Sydney Open trail and having given up on eating at the Spanish Quarter Festival, we headed to Chinatown for a guaranteed good cheap feed.

Antidote for hot weather + thirst = Vietnamese.

I can never get enough nuoc cham!

I had the grilled pork with BBQ pork which was zingy and fresh. However having now consumed so many cold noodle salads, this one was slightly disappointing with its use of thicker slippery rice noodles, instead of the usual fine al-dente vermicelli. The pork was ok but not as caramelised or lemongrassy as I normally like, although the carrot and cucumber were julienned nicely.

Nevertheless a satisfying meal, and is it just me or is the Vietnamese gentleman permanently behind the counter?

Vermicelli with BBQ pork $8.50 with coconut juice $2.00
