La Ricetta, Enmore

zucchini flowers
Fiori di zucchini ripiene $21.90
Lightly fried zucchini flowers filled with bocconcini,
ricotta and sun-dried tomatoes in a light beer batter
served on a light tomato sauce

There's a constant cycle of restaurants opening and closing on Enmore Road. La Ricetta has been one of the few constants to remain for some time.

We escape the cold night and enter the warm confines of the restaurant after a show at the Enmore Theatre. We're pleasantly surprised by the warm-hearted hospitality in this cosy little space. There are plenty of local patrons, noted by the laughs with the waitstaff whilst they share a personal joke. There's also a large group who are celebrating a birthday seated down one side of the narrow restaurant.

I'm tempted by the fichi con gorgonzola, baked figs wrapped in parma ham served with gorgonzola sauce and sprinkled with walnuts. But the three of us end up sharing a main sized portion of the zucchini flowers as a starter instead. The batter is crisp and the zucchini is tender. The bocconcini and ricotta are smooth mild counterparts to the rich deep red tomato sauce.

spaghetti
Spaghetti frutti di mare $20.90
Spaghetti with mussels, vongole, calamari, fish, prawns
white wine, chilli and fresh tomato

We end up rotating our plates when our mains arrive as well. The spaghetti is packed with seafood although I wish the sauce had had more of a strong tomato flavour.

ravioli
Ravioli all anitra $21.90
Homemade ravioli stuffed with duck and prosciutto
served with a butter and sage sauce

I'd debated over whether to order the fettuccine con cinghiale, fettuccine cooked with wild boar, porcini mushrooms and black truffle, but ordered the ravioli with duck and prosciutto instead. The square pillows of pasta are satiny smooth but the filling inside is a little disappointing without much texture of duck or prosciutto. The butter and sage sauce is delicious though.

fettucine
Fettuccine sambuca $20.90
Fettuccine tossed with prawns, fresh tomato, garlic, chilli, shallots
flamed with Sambuca and a touch of cream

The unanimous winner of the night is the fettuccine sambuca. It's tomato-y and sweet with a highlight of fresh tasty prawns. There's a hint of Sambuca and a whisper of cream.

All those carbs mean we're too full to contemplate dessert. Next time, perhaps.

You missed a treat with the figs in parma ham then, it's delicious. We stumbled upon this place by accident late last year and were delighted with it - you've prompted me to go back now.
Love your site by the way, I've followed many of your recommendations and haven't disagreed yet!

Hi Jax - I was sorely tempted but was unable to convince my friends that yes, they really would like gorgonzola - they're not quite the blue cheese fan that I am! :P

Glad you're enjoying the site and thanks for your comment. Please do add your thoughts - it seems you've proved your good taste already. lol.
